India Suspends Visa Services for Canadians
In recent news, the Indian government has temporarily suspended visa services for Canadian citizens, citing operational reasons. This unexpected decision has raised eyebrows and left many Canadians scheduling to travel to India in a state of uncertainty. While this suspension might shock some, there are fundamental operational reasons behind this move.
Given the increasing instances of anti-India activities, as well as concerns about the possible tolerance of hate crimes and criminal violence in Canada, we strongly advise all Indian students currently in Canada and those considering travel to exercise the highest level of caution and vigilance.
Indian nationals and students from India currently in Canada are encouraged to register their details with the High Commission of India in Ottawa or the Consulates General of India in Toronto and Vancouver.
Registration can be done conveniently through their respective official websites or the MADAD portal at madad.gov.in.
This proactive registration will facilitate improved communication between the High Commission and Consulates General and Indian citizens in Canada, particularly in cases of emergencies or unforeseen incidents.
While the suspension of visa services for Canadians may be inconvenient, it is essential to understand that it is a response to operational challenges. India, like all countries, is prioritizing the safety of its residents and visitors.
Canadians affected by this temporary measure should monitor updates from the Indian government and consider adjusting their travel plans accordingly. In time, visa services are likely to be reinstated and normal travel between India and Canada will resume.
