A post-study work visa allows international students to work in New Zealand after completing their degree to gain work experience and have better career opportunities.
There are chances for you to be eligible for post-study work visa, if you are studying in New Zealand and fit in these criteria listed below:
If you are a student of degree level 4-6 with minimum of 60 weeks, you are eligible to get 1 year of open-visa which allows you to find a job. You may be eligible to apply for permanent residency of New Zealand if you can prove that you meet their relevant criteria after 1 year.
If you are level 7 or above degree and if you fit in the below listed criteria, you are eligible for three year post study open work permit:
- Must have successfully completed a degree qualification that would gain points under the ‘New Zealand Immigration Skilled Migrant Category’.
- If your qualification is higher than that of your previous visa.
- Course duration of minimum 30 weeks.

- Latest education qualification certificates
- Bank statement of three months
- Bank statement showing minimum balance of $4,200
You must apply for post study work visa within three months of the end date of your student visa. Ph.D. students can apply up to six months after end date of their student visa.
